Many, many years ago, 1988 I think, I snapped this photo. On a week day on the streets of Chicago, my girlfriend at the time was walking down the street. We were together for three years, then we were apart for four, and we had enjoyed a brief reunion when this photo was taken. On this day some little voice in my head told me that with every step that she took, she was walking further and further away from our love affair, again. Today, we are still very good friends, but on this day, oh so long ago, she closed the book on our romance.
Over twenty-five years ago I remember looking through the window at the hospital's nursery at my sister sleeping in her little baby bed. I have watched her grow up over these decades plus into the young woman she has become, and now she is about to become a Mother for the first time. She is a swirling mix of fear, excitement, anxiety, and bliss, right now. Her baby is due in five weeks, and I hope she's ready for how life will change for her. She'll go from being the Little Princess of the family, and become the Queen Bee with her own Little Princess. How the years go by, my how the years go by.
